FCL vs LCL Ocean Freight for Garment & Home Furnishing Exports: Which Mode Suits Your Shipment?
Selecting the wrong packaging type is the most common cause of temperature excursions, failed QA audits, and rejected consignments. Clearfast advises based on your product specifications, lane profile, and hold-time requirements not a one-size-fits-all recommendation.
Best for: high-volume, regular shipments
A full 20ft or 40ft container loaded exclusively with your cargo is cost-effective when volume justifies it, and gives you full control over the stuffing, sealing, and delivery timeline.
- Best above 12–15 CBM per shipment
- 20ft, 40ft, 40ft HC, and flat-rack options
- No co-loading risk for your cargo only
- Fixed departure on nominated vessel
- Suitable for branded & high-value garments
- JNPT, Mundra, Kochi, Chennai departures
Best for: smaller orders, trial shipments & SMEs
Multiple exporters' cargo consolidated into a shared container pay only for your CBM. Ideal for emerging exporters, smaller buyers, and replenishment orders that don't fill a full container.
- No minimum volume from 1 CBM
- Weekly fixed departures from all major ports
- HBL issued per exporter
- Cost-effective for sub-12 CBM loads
- Suitable for new buyer trial orders
- Buyer's co-loading available from multiple factories

Garment & Home Furnishing Buyer Seasons: Why Shipping Timelines Are Non-Negotiable
Unlike most cargo categories, garment and home furnishing exports operate on rigid retail buying calendars. Missing a buyer’s shipment window by even a week means your goods arrive after the store’s seasonal floor-set, leading to markdown deductions, order cancellations, or chargebacks. Clearfast plans around your buyer season, not just your ready date.
Q1 Spring / Summer: Feb–Apr booking window
Spring/Summer garment and lightweight furnishing orders ship Jan–Mar for US and EU retail floor placement by April. Highest demand period for ocean FCL from Tirupur, Delhi, and Surat.
Q2 Mid-season: May–Jun air freight peak
Replenishment orders and fast-fashion restock often ship by air to meet mid-season demand. Air freight from CSIA, BLR, and DEL peaks in May–June for Europe-bound garments.
Q3 Autumn / Winter: Jul–Sep peak ocean season
Autumn/Winter is the highest-volume ocean booking window for heavy knitwear, home textiles, and furnishings for Q4 retail. JNPT and Mundra FCL space tightens from July; early booking is critical.
Q4 Holiday & Christmas: Oct–Dec air freight surge
Holiday range replenishment and last-minute Christmas stock ships by air Oct–Nov. Clearfast maintains allocated air freight capacity from all major gateways during this peak window.
Why Getting Freight Right Matters More in Garments Than Any Other Category
Garment and home furnishing exports operate on buyer calendars with zero flexibility. A delayed shipment doesn't just cost freight it triggers buyer chargebacks, markdown deductions, and loss of future orders. Clearfast's garment logistics team is structured around your buyer deadlines, not just your cargo readiness date.
Without deadline-aware logistics
Missing the buyer’s floor-set window
Cargo arrives after the buyer’s seasonal floor-set date; garments go to clearance at a discount. The exporter absorbs the markdown deduction. The relationship is damaged.
Multiple factory orders arriving separately
Buyer orders from three factories ship separately three sets of documentation, three customs entries at destination, three freight bills. More cost, more complexity, more risk of partial shipment delays.
RODTEP and drawback claims left unfiled
A separate CHA does not proactively file RODTEP scheme credits or duty drawback claims the exporter loses entitled export incentives worth 1–4% of the FOB value per shipment.
With Clearfast
Booking aligned to buyer season calendar
Our account managers work backwards from your buyer’s delivery window to set vessel cut-off dates, factory carting schedules, and documentation timelines before the shipment is ready.
All factories consolidated into one shipment
Clearfast coordinates carting from every nominated factory, consolidates at our warehouse, and ships as a single consignment one set of documents, one customs entry, one freight cost.
RODTEP and drawback filed as standard
Clearfast’s in-house licensed CHA team initiates RODTEP scheme credits and duty drawback claims as part of standard export clearance, recovering what your business is already owed.

Frequently Asked Questions
FCL ocean freight from JNPT or Mundra suits full-container volumes (18–25 days transit), while LCL or air freight from CSIA, DEL, or BLR handles smaller or urgent orders (3–5 days by air, at higher cost per kg). ClearFast handles all three modes from every major Indian garment cluster
Buyer’s consolidation combines cargo from multiple factories into one shipment for a single international buyer, common when buyers source knitwear, linens, and furnishings from different Indian hubs. ClearFast manages carting from each factory, warehouse consolidation, combined documentation, and one freight invoice.
Standard documentation includes a commercial invoice, packing list, Shipping Bill filed on ICEGATE, Certificate of Origin, and bill of lading or air waybill. Preferential trade agreements like India-UAE CEPA require an additional GSP Certificate of Origin. ClearFast’s in-house CHA team prepares all documents and files Shipping Bills.
RODTEP refunds duties and taxes embedded in exported goods that aren’t otherwise rebated, typically 0.5%–4% of FOB value for garments and textiles. Credits are issued against the Shipping Bill and can offset import duties or be transferred. ClearFast initiates RODTEP claims on every export clearance.
Book by June or early July for August–September vessel departures, since US retail floor sets require port arrival by late July or August. Cargo readiness should be confirmed by late June, with FCL space booked by May–June earlier in congested shipping years.
